Teacher Academy Grows to 100 Teachers

Logo 8 SEPTEMBER 5, 2019 – Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is proud to announce the newest members of Teacher Academy.

Teacher Academy is an innovative program developed by Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and is part of the Peer Project sponsored by the Winston Salem Foundation.

Donna Cannon, the Director of Teacher Academy, states: “The selection of Teacher Leaders within the Teacher Academy supports our district’s vision and commitment to identifying leadership opportunities for accomplished teachers at every level. The selection process was rigorous and resulted in identifying some of the best of the best in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.”

"A special thank you to our Superintendent and School Board and of course, the Winston Salem Foundation and their donors for funding this incredible opportunity for our teachers. It has encouraged great collaboration, team building and a unique atmosphere in which we build teacher capacity and support students. We are proud to be 100 strong!"

The goals of the Teacher Academy are:

  • Increase teacher leadership capacity by providing two clearly defined pathways for teacher leadership
  • Increase teacher effectiveness at all levels from pre-k to grade 12.
  • Provide all schools and departments the differentiated support they need to reach the full potential of the Continuous Improvement Process to maximize student outcomes
  • Train and support individuals to be strong instructional leaders and hold them accountable for achieving district goals.
  • Equip staff to support struggling students.
  • Encourages collaboration amongst teachers and schools

The vision of the Teacher Academy is “Excellent Instruction in Every Classroom Every Day.” Our Mission is: “Equip every teacher to provide high quality instruction in a supportive environment such that every learner meets his or her academic potential.”
