SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 – To honor the 20th anniversary of 9/11, students at Whitaker Elementary School held a “Snack Drive” and collected treats to be distributed to Winston Salem's First Responders and Essential Workers.
The Snack Drive was held on Friday, Sept. 10. Snack boxes will be distributed to the police department, fire stations, emergency rooms, and other essential worker departments.
As another way to honor the anniversary of 9/11, Whitaker students and staff wore red, white, and blue on Friday.
The second annual Snack Drive was sponsored by the Third Grade and Enriching Minds classes.
Third-grade students promoted the Snack Drive with posters, morning announcements and reminders, and through social media. Students decorated boxes to be given to First Responders and Essential Workers. They also loaded the boxes with the snack donations. Cards were made thanking the community helpers for their ongoing support.
The Snack Drive was organized by Suzanne Sarfert, who is an AIG Catalyst/Specialist Teacher.
“Suzanne, thanks for leading this effort,” said Principal Sharon Creasy.
“Your leadership inspired and educated us all by remembering and honoring our first responders.”
