Educator Warehouse Open House Set for This Week

Science SuppliesAugust 8, 2022 - Returning for a 12th year of providing Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools educators with vital school supplies, The Educator Warehouse is holding an open house this Thursday, Friday and Saturday ahead of the 2022-23 school year.

The Educator Warehouse is the result of a collaboration between WS/FCS, the Council of PTAs and the Forsyth Educator Partnership. Hosted out of a pod at Diggs-Latham Elementary School, the warehouse assembles school supplies for teachers to browse and select from whenever their stocks run low. The supplies from the warehouse come at no expense to teachers or to students and their families, making it a key resource for classroom equipment, especially in the first half of the school year.

Writing UtensilsJust a few days removed from the start of the new school year, the Educator Warehouse is well stocked with pencils, paper, binders, books, tissues, crafting supplies and more thanks to generous donations from the community, both from individuals and from sponsoring organizations like Publix, The Shepherd’s Center and JOANN Fabric and Crafts. However, there’s still room for more help. This one small warehouse helps support every school in the district – 350 teachers shopped there during last year’s open house alone – and at any given time, it’s usually operated by only about five volunteers. Volunteer Karel Chandler says that donations of money, supplies or time are highly appreciated as the warehouse seeks to give every child in Forsyth County a positive start to their school year.

Location at Diggs-Latham“At the start of the day, we want every child to have everything they need to start on the right foot,” Chandler said. “We can’t do much about it once the school day starts, but we can do a lot to give them what they need right now.”

This year’s Educator Warehouse open house will take place in their pod at Diggs-Latham Elementary on Thursday, August 11 from 3 pm to 8 pm, Friday, August 12 from 9 am to 8 pm and Saturday, August 13 from 9 am to 3 pm. The event on Thursday is exclusively for first-year teachers, while Friday and Saturday’s events will welcome veteran teachers as well.
