An Important Message for WS/FCS Families from Superintendent McManus
Good evening,
This is Tricia McManus WS/FCS Superintendent. Today was another frightening day for our community, many of our students, and our partners at Forsyth Tech. As you know, a shooting occurred earlier today at Forsyth Tech. While attending an event for students exploring future college plans, one of our students was injured after shooting himself in the hand. There are still lots of questions as the investigation continues and we will lean on our law enforcement partners to keep us up to date.
I want to extend my extreme gratitude to our staff members, our students, and our partners at Forsyth Tech and the Winston-Salem Police Department. Swift action was taken by all as Forsyth Tech went on lockdown. Our students and staff acted calm and swift.
Today was our last school day before spring break. The excitement of this break has sadly been overshadowed by these events. I hope you can use this break to rest and reenergize and also talk with your children prior to returning on April 11, reminding them that any concerns or information they have about violence or weapons is critical to share with a trusted adult.
Any student who brings a firearm on our campus will face a 365-day suspension. The safety of our students is our most important priority, and I can assure you that we will be reviewing the details of this incident to improve all safety protocols. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and thank you for your support of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Thank you,
Tricia McManus, WS/FCS Superintendent
