An Open Letter of Appreciation to Sedge Garden Employees
The following is a letter submitted by two parents at Sedge Garden Elementary School. Ainsley and Wylonda Owens say that their sons have had an overwhelmingly positive experience at the school thanks to the compassion and dedication of several staff members. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is grateful for these employees, as well as all of the wonderful educators who make our district a welcoming place to learn and grow!
We are writing to publicly thank two WS/FCS employees who have had a dynamic impact on our kids!
These individuals, who have very different roles, are equally important in the lives of our boys!
Elijah is a fifth grader and Micah "Big Mic" is a third grader at Sedge Garden Elementary School. Both are A/B Honor Roll students. This year has been great and we could not go any longer without expressing how much we truly appreciate their hard work each and every day!
"Mr. Bus Driver" (Bus 808), as he is affectionally known by the kids, hardly ever takes a day off and we often wonder how he keeps going day after day with such a positive attitude and caring spirit. He has driven the same route since the boys started riding the bus. His pick-up time is consistent every day and he waves and toots the horn at the boys, which they love! What a joy it has been over the years when the kids on his bus receive birthday cakes, Christmas gifts, and even sweet treats on Valentines Day! To show his appreciation, Elijah decided to give Mr. Bus Driver a Mango Dragon Fruit Refresher from Starbucks, which is Elijah's favorite drink!
As for Big Mic, he has done great this year in Mrs. Nazareth’s third grade class. They both share jokes with each other on a daily basis to see who is the funniest! He also loves going to school early on Friday's so he can dance in the hallways and help Mrs. Nazareth with any copying or classroom setup chores where he is able to assist. Additionally, with Chick-fil-A being both their favorite breakfast spot, they enjoy breakfast together on occasion, and this morning was no different! He knows her order from memory! Mrs. Nazareth has been teaching Micah the importance of responsibility, especially since he wants a dog similar to her golden doodle! Micah asks if Mrs. Nazareth can follow him to fourth grade, but as we tell him, he has to experience the teaching of the other wonderful teachers at Sedge Garden.
While Elijah will move on to Southeast Middle School next year and they both will have the same bus driver, they will likely have new teachers and begin making new memories! While our boys face challenges at times like any other young people, we know having amazing and supportive staff and teachers like Mr. Bus Driver, Mrs. Nazareth, and others makes the difference. In fact, we know their love and support has directly impacted both our boys in making the honor roll all year.
Thank you Mr. Bus Driver, Mrs. Nazareth, and all the employees of WS/FCS who work tirelessly on behalf of our boys and all students.
