North Hills Thanks Community Partners

Staff + VolunteersSeptember 11, 2023 – Just a couple of weeks into the 2023-24 school year, North Hills Elementary School is off to a great start thanks to cooperation from its community partners.

With LaJoi Wilson-Moore

Last Friday, Tyson Foods and several other partners visited the school with pallets full of food, as well as financial donations, to help stock the school’s food pantry. These donations will help make sure that North Hills students and their families don’t have to worry about going hungry when they find themselves in tough situations. Other community partners, including the Winston-Salem Police Department, the Winston-Salem State University Nursing Department, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated have also been active at the school in the first two weeks of classes, greeting students on the first day of school, providing over 200 books to libraries, and generally making good use of their time and talents.

Check PresentationNorth Hills Principal LaJoi Wilson-Moore says that the school is emphasizing themes of curriculum, community, and culture this year. An engaged base of civic partners can help create a culture of collaboration in which every student has the tools that they need to learn their curriculum and use it to enrich their lives and communities. North Hills should have no trouble maintaining its commitment to excellence as long as their local supporters continue to show up for the good of students.

“This year, NHES's theme is 'Committed to Excellence – Curriculum, Community, and Culture’,” Wilson-Moore said. “Our community partners are helping to level the playing field as we address barriers to accessing curriculum.”
