HBAWS Feeds Winston-Salem Prep Staff

Order WindowOctober 31, 2023 – The Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem treated the faculty at Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy to a catered lunch during their teacher workday on Monday afternoon.

Earlier this year, HBAWS sponsored the second annual Nailed It! 5k in Kernersville. The race raised money for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools through registration fees and collected school supplies, nutritious snacks, and personal hygiene items for students in need. HBAWS decided to continue its support of WSPA and show appreciation for the school’s teachers by catering them a lunch from the MR People Feeder Food Truck.

MR People Feeder“We’re just trying to show them some of the love that they deserve,” said Sarah Avery of the HBAWS. “We’re so happy to have them involved in our kids’ lives.”

Monday was a teacher workday, so the lunch was an uncommon opportunity for teachers to have fellowship without students in the building. As much as educators love their work, the strain of their careers can mount overtime, and the lunch was a perfect chance to practice self-care.

“On a day when they don’t have students in the classroom, they’re able to take some time to enjoy their lunch and focus on themselves” said HBAWS Board Member Michael Enscore.

Happy FamilyA free meal is always a pleasant treat, but yesterday’s lunch meant more than that to the staff at WSPA. Knowing that members of their community believe in the work they do every day and that they are willing to go the extra mile to support them is an incredible comfort that will motivate these educators for a long time to come.

“It means everything to us,” said WSPA Teacher Maija Smith. “We do what we do because we love it, but to know that we have the community’s support too is phenomenal.”
