Reagan Senior Awarded Corporate-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship
MAY 26, 2021 – Sarvesh Venkittu, who is a senior at Reagan High, has been awarded a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship.
Venkittu, who will be going to Duke University, plans to major in Engineering, most likely Civil/Environmental.
His scholarship, which is sponsored by Raytheon Co., is for $1,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $4,000.
According to a press release from the National Merit Scholarship Corp., “Raytheon Co. is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security, and civil markets throughout the world. Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration, and capabilities in various areas: sensing; effects; command, control, communications and intelligence systems; cybersecurity; and a broad range of mission support services.”
“About 1,000 high school seniors across the country have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 140 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.”
“Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for Finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage.”
“Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.”
