WSFCS does have an exam exemption policy that allows students to be exempt from any teacher-made exams.  The exam exemption policy does NOT apply to EOCs.  All students are required to take any EOC assessment (in person), regardless of overall average or absences.

The exam exemption policy allows a student to be exempt from his/her teacher-made exam provided the student has:

  • An overall average in the class of A with 5 or fewer absences from the class.
  • An overall average in the class of B with 3 or fewer absences from the class.
  • An overall average in the class of C with 0 absences from the class.
  • A student is not required to take the exam exemption, meaning you can choose to still take the exam even if you qualify for the exemption.

The remainder of the announcements apply to SENIORS.  Seniors, please read the information below carefully.

  • (#1): The Senior Cookout on May 11 will be catered by Zaxby’s.  The meal will be chicken tenders, coleslaw, chips, cookie, and bottled water.  There is no charge for the meal.

  • (#2): Please email Mr. Hearl ASAP (jdhearl@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) if you need more than 10 tickets for your family for the ECF graduation.  Please indicate how many additional tickets you will need in your email.  Graduation tickets will be distributed to students at graduation practice on May 11.

  • (#3): We have started posting Senior Spotlights on Twitter and our website.  It’s not too late to complete the form if you haven’t done so.  Here is the link to complete the Senior Spotlight form.

  • (#4): The following items will be distributed to Seniors at the end of graduation practice on Tuesday:
    • Senior T-shirts, Senior pictures, any awards from Monday’s Senior Awards Program, graduation tickets, caps and gowns not picked up, maps and parking instructions for graduation.
    • Seniors should enter Deaton-Thompson Stadium via the entrance on Old Salisbury Road when coming for graduation practice on Tuesday. (Click here for map.)
    • We will have plain black Bic ink pens on site on Tuesday to use for signing yearbooks. You will need to bring your own pens/markers if you want to use something other than a plain black Bic ink pen.

  • (#6): Graduation Practice for Seniors will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 11, at Deaton-Thompson Stadium (2052 Old Salisbury Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127).  Students should dress comfortably for the practice.  You do not have to wear your cap and gown to the practice.  We will have a Senior Picnic and Yearbook Signing from 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon at the stadium immediately following the graduation practice.

  • (#7): FTCC Graduation will be held on Wednesday, May 12, at 10:00 AM at Truist Stadium (951 Ballpark Way, Winston-Salem, NC 27101).  This is the DASH baseball stadium.  You need to click the link below to read more about the FTCC Graduation.  You must register for the graduation.  Registration opened on April 12.  Please check your FTCC email account for more information.  The link below also provides information about how to pick up your Forsyth Tech cap and gown.  Please email Ms. Mills (mmills@forsythtech.edu) if you have specific questions.

  • (#8): ECF Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 13, at 9:30 AM at Deaton-Thompson Stadium (2052 Old Salisbury Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127).  Seniors need to arrive by 8:45 AM.  Seniors will be seated on the field.  Parents will be seated in the bleachers.  We will have a photographer taking pictures of each Senior receiving his/her diploma on the stage and taking pictures of each Senior as he/she walks off the stage.  Parents will NOT be allowed on the field at any point before, during, or after the ceremony to take pictures.  Seniors, you must wear your cap and gown to participate in the ceremony.

  • (#9): Seniors must have all items returned and fees paid (textbooks, Senior fees, calculator, Chromebook, etc.) prior to participating in Graduation on May 13.  Please email Mrs. Shore (tmshore2@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) if you have specific questions about fees.

  • (#10): Several of you have asked about decorating your cap for the graduation ceremony.  You can do so provided nothing on your cap is profane, offensive, or derogatory.

  • (#11): Many of you are wondering what you need to wear under your gown for graduation on Thursday.  You are not required to dress up.  You do have to wear your cap and gown to participate in the ceremony.  You can choose to dress casual under the gown if you prefer.  Keep in mind that you will probably be taking many photos with your family after the event.  As for your shoes, you can wear tennis shoes or flip flops if you prefer.  Ladies, the decision to wear heels is up to you.  Be mindful that you will be walking on grass on an already soft football field (with potential rain this week as well).

  • (#12): The weather is always a concern for outdoor events this time of year.  In the event we have to postpone graduation on Thursday, we would reschedule for the following day (Friday, May 14) at the same time.

  • (#13): Seniors DO NOT have to attend any high school classes (in-person or Zoom) this week.  Your courses are complete for the semester!  Congratulations!!

  • (#14): Take a deep breath.  Relax and enjoy the moment.  You are going to be great this week.  Please know that you can reach out to me at any point this week with any questions you may have.
