MCF Announcements (April 19-22)

Hello Middle College Students and Families!  I hope each of you had a great holiday weekend.  Here are announcements for this week (April 19-22).

 

  • IMPORTANT!!! Students, you need to be checking both your WSFCS and your FT email accounts daily!!!

 

  • Any student that has been in close contact with Covid or has symptoms of Covid, please call the school or email Mrs. Hartis (lahartis@wsfcs.k12.nc.us). We will need to get additional information to determine if a quarantine is needed or not.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school.

 

NEW/PRIORITY ANNOUCEMENTS:

 

  • Senior Sunset/Senior Movie Night will be held this Thursday, April 21, beginning at 7:30 PM. Seniors are invited to come to campus on Thursday evening and watch the sunset with their classmates.  We will also be watching a movie outside in the grassy area behind Tech Building.  Bring a blanket or chair to sit on.  Seniors are encouraged to wear their Senior T-shirts to the event.  See Mrs. Shore or Mrs. Sluder if you have not yet picked up your Senior T-shirt.
    • Note: We are open to suggestion as for what movie you want to watch.  Email Mr. Hearl with suggestions.  Right now, High School Musical 3 is the frontrunner.  Movie must be PG-13, PG, or G rated. 

 

  • This Friday (April 22) will be Fun Friday for ECF/MCF. We will be moving to Forsyth Tech West Campus (1300 Bolton St, Winston-Salem, NC 27103) for the day.  This will allow us use of a gym, auditorium, and outdoor field.  We will begin at 9:00 AM at West Campus. 
    • Fun Friday will consist of the following events:
      • Team Time
      • Fine Arts Performance (Dance Club, A-Cappella Club, Poet Laureates)
      • Breakfast & Lunch (Provided by WSFCS—This will be the regular school breakfast and lunch. Students can pack a lunch from home if they desire.)
      • Competitive Team Events
      • Announcement of Team Points Winners & Grand Prize
    • We are asking (if possible) for car riders be dropped off and picked up at West Campus instead of Main Campus. Students can be dropped off as early as 8:00 AM at West Campus on Friday.  Students can be picked up at West Campus beginning at 3:00 PM on Friday afternoon. 
    • West Campus (1300 Bolton St, Winston-Salem, NC 27103) is very close to Main Campus (1.7 miles away).
    • Any students remaining at West Campus at 3:30 PM on Friday will be bussed back to Main Campus to wait for rides.
    • Student drivers should report directly to West Campus on Friday morning. Parking is available for you at West Campus.
    • Mrs. Weavil will be shuttling via bus any students from Main Campus (regular bus riders, students dropped off at Main Campus, etc.) to West Campus on Friday morning. She will also be available to shuttle students back to Main Campus on Friday afternoon (if needed).
    • Students are asked to wear their Team T-shirts on Friday and to wear comfortable shoes. You may want to bring a hat/sunglasses depending on weather. 
    • Students, please make every attempt to attend. This will be one of your most enjoyable days of the school year.

  • Forsyth Tech is sponsoring an event called “Focus 2022” on April 20 from 9 AM – 3 PM. All current high school seniors are invited to attend to learn more about the many programs available for high school seniors once they have graduated.  The target audience is high school seniors without a definitive plan for after graduation.  Please see the  attached flyer or visit the following site for more information.

 

  • Mrs. Pagan’s Spanish students will be taking a trip to Reynolda House Wednesday (April 20). Mrs. Pagan will share trip specifics with students prior to the trip.

 

  • The second Hamilton trip will be this Wednesday evening (April 20). Specific details about departure/return times, dress code, etc. will be shared with students tomorrow.

 

  • Announcement from Student Services Department:
    • Effective immediately through Fall 2024, students wanting to apply to college to any of the University of North Carolina System Institutions are no longer required to submit an ACT or SAT test score. Students will still have the option to submit an ACT or SAT test score, but test scores will not be required for admission decisions. Those who do not submit a standardized test score will need to meet the minimum weighted GPA of 2.5 to be considered for undergraduate admission.  Please see Mr. Felder or Mr. Glenn if you have questions.

 

  • Seniors, mark your calendars for a Senior Class Meeting at 9:00 AM on Friday, April 29. Meeting location will either be in Ardmore Auditorium or Strickland Auditorium.  Definite location will be shared before April 29.  The meeting will last from 9:00 – 10:00 that morning.  The Senior Picnic is from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM on April 29. 

 

  • The Community Service Club is sponsoring a feminine hygiene product drive. Students donating items will receive points for their team.  Donations can be dropped off in the Main Office or in Mrs. Sluder’s room.  Please see Mrs. Sluder for more information.

 

  • The location and time for Forsyth Tech graduation has changed. Forsyth Tech graduation will still be on Thursday, May 5; however, the location will now be Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the time will now be 5:00 PM.  Please visit the following website to read lots of other important information about the Forsyth Tech graduation.

 

  • ATTENTION SENIORS: Here are dates for upcoming Senior events.  More specific information will be sent out as we get closer to the individual events.
    • Thursday, April 21: Senior Sunset & Outdoor Movie Night
      • See above announcements for specific details.
    • Friday, April 29: Senior Class Meeting (Location TBD) (9:00 – 10:00 AM)
    • Friday, April 29: Senior Picnic at Bolton Park (11:00 – 2:00)
    • Thursday, May 5: Forsyth Tech Graduation at LJVM Coliseum at 5:00 PM
    • Monday, May 9: Senior Awards Program in Strickland Auditorium
      • ECF @ 10:00 AM, MCF @ 1:00 PM
    • Tuesday, May 10: High School Graduation Practice at Deaton-Thompson Stadium
      • (MCF 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM, ECF 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon)
    • Thursday, May 12: High School Graduation
      • (ECF @ 9:30 AM, MCF @ 12:30 PM)
      • Ceremony will last approximately one hour.

 

  • ECF and MCF students and staff can now be tested for Covid at school between the hours of 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The test will be a rapid test with results within 15 minutes.  Please see Mrs. Shore (ECF) or Mrs. Hartis (MCF) for more information.  Students must have an authorization form signed by parent or guardian to be tested.  The form is attached.

 

REPEAT ANNOUCEMENTS:

 

  • Attention Juniors: Appalachian State University is sponsoring a summer program called Technovation For Good.  It is a two-week summer program that the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State is hosting this summer 2022. FULL SCHOLARSHIPS are available.

 

  • As the temperature gets warmer as we move into Spring, I want to remind all students of the WSFCS Student Dress Code. Violations of the of the student dress code will be handled by school administration.  Below is a copy of the WSFCS Student Dress Code:
    • Students shall adhere to their school’s dress code. At a minimum, the following dress or appearance is prohibited:
      • Clothing that contains advertisements for tobacco, alcohol or drugs; pictures or graphics of nudity; words that are profane, lewd, vulgar, or indecent;
      • Halter or bare midriff tops, or bare midriffs;
      • Spaghetti straps or tank tops;
      • Strapless shirts or tube tops;
      • Bare feet;
      • Short shorts or skirts;
      • Pants, slacks or jeans that sag below waist; and
      • Hats, caps, bandanas, or garments which cover the student’s face or conceal the student’s identity.
      • Underpants or bras showing or worn as outerwear;
      • Provocative, revealing attire that exposes cleavage; and
      • Any symbols, styles or attire frequently associated with gangs, intimidation, violence or violent groups about which students at a particular school have been notified as described in AR 5131.4.

  • Any families needing assistance with school supplies for this year should contact Ms. Nakawatase (lynakawatase@wsfcs.k12.nc.us). We do have some supplies available to assist. 

 

  • We want all families to know that both ECF and MCF have a food bank ready to assist families in need. Please contact Ms. Nakawatase (lynakawatase@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) if you would like more information.

 

  • The class schedule/times for Middle College this year are as follows:
    • 1st Period: 10:30-11:50
    • Lunch: 11:50-12:30
    • 2nd Period: 12:30-1:50
    • 3rd Period: 1:55-3:15
  • Some of you may have a class at Early College (Ardmore Building) this semester. The Early College schedule is below:
    • 1st Period: 9:00-10:20
    • 2nd Period: 10:25-11:45
    • Lunch: 11:45-12:30
    • 3rd Period: 12:30-1:50
    • 4th Period: 1:55-3:15
