Updates Jan 25 - 29
Dear Parents,
I hope all are warm and enjoying the snow, along with ice and wind! With the last two weeks being quite choppy and now the weather, I need to make a few adjustments to our weekly expectations.
Reading
We will be completing and beginning novels once we return. Students should have completed the questions and summaries for the Jan 18 Scholastic by now, but if not there's still time this weekend! I will be assigning a story from the heavy reading book to be going through in homeroom and dismissal. Depending on how well students manage their time, they shouldn't have to take the book home. They are bulky! We will keep the same spelling words one last week in hopes we will be in school and able to complete the tasks assigned with those words
Writing
We will be writing several responses this quarter involving information for the reader. Students should practice when they can delivering messages that will be "informational" to family and friends with accuracy. We continue to do daily warm ups with sentence corrections for grammar, spelling, and capitalization. NEW! I have cursive handwriting booklets for them to work through the remaining part of the year. The expectation is to complete a letter per week. We will begin Jan 25th, since the weather and other circumstances have been so chopped up.
Math
We began our fraction unit last week (the one day), and will continue to learn and explore as much about recognizing, comparing, ordering, and calculating with same denominator fractions as possible! I hope students will cook, shop, and do activities at home that involve fractions to help them understand even more with hands on experiences
Since a couple were absent and the 1-day week; Monster Math 8 will be due on Jan 29th. That should give plenty of time for those absent and the interrupted week last week.
