SHA Mobile Unit

Back-to-School ChecklistThe School Health Alliance’s mobile unit is once again visiting Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools campuses to help families get health screenings taken care of before the start of next school year.

From now until the first week of school, the mobile unit will spend the day stationed at a different school four days a week. There, clinicians will offer regular checkups, sports physicals, sick visits, and more to students who need them. These services are available regardless of ability to pay and can be used by any students in the district, even if the unit is not at their school.

All students attending North Carolina public schools for the first time, including kindergarteners, must have an up-to-date health assessment before September 12, or else they will not be allowed to return until their assessment is complete. All students must also be up to date on mandatory vaccinations. The mobile unit does not perform vaccinations, but they are available through the Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Novant Health, and Wake Forest Baptist Health.

Physician’s Assistant Emma Fiore says that the mobile unit expects to see around a dozen students per day by the start of August, and things tend to get busier late in the summer. Families should act quickly to make sure they get all of their necessary visits done in a timely manner. Today is a great time to call and schedule an appointment, and clinicians are excited to help.

“We’ll help you coordinate everything you need,” Fiore said. “Just give us a call.”
