The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education has approved Dr. Ian Olsen to be the next principal of Whitaker Elementary School. He begins in December.

Olsen is an assistant principal at Jefferson Middle School. He has served WS/FCS for more than 17 years, including 14 as a principal or assistant principal in middle and elementary schools.

“Dr. Olsen has a proven record of improving student achievement, mentoring educators, and navigating complex challenges. His successful principalship at Gibson Elementary demonstrated his ability to lead meaningful, results-driven change,” said Area Superintendent Felicia Davis. “Dr. Olsen is a data-driven and collaborative leader. He has deep insight into our students, families, and community. He is committed to fostering a positive school culture where teachers feel valued and all students can thrive.”

Olsen has an Ed.D. in school administration from Gardner-Webb University with the focus on gifted learners, a Post Master’s Certificate in School Administration from UNC Greensboro, and both M.A. and B.S. degrees from Michigan State University.

He replaces Principal Brian Brookshire, who is retiring.
