Dr. Kimberly Forbes has been named Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ interim chief financial officer.
Forbes has 24 years of experience in foundational financial leadership. She previously served as an operations manager and IT administrator for MidCarolina Bank, a banking operations manager for U.S. Trust Private Bank, a vice president of deposit operations for Carolina Bank, and more. She currently serves WS/FCS as the director of career and technical education, a position that oversees a $22 million annual budget.
She holds a Doctor of Education degree from Capella University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from North Carolina A&T University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Computer Information Systems from Guilford College.
Superintendent Don Phipps believes that Forbes’ experience managing complex budgets and navigating high-stakes regulatory environments, coupled with her history of good work as part of the WS/FCS team, makes her uniquely suited to helping the district create a more stable environment to learn and work in.
“Our priority going forward is to get into a steady, sustainable financial position. Not only do we want a consistently balanced budget, but we also want our whole community to be able to trust that it’s going to stay that way,” Phipps said. “Kim Forbes is the right choice to help us earn that trust. She knows good money management and she knows our people.”
Forbes will begin her new position immediately. She replaces Angie Clark, WS/FCS director of accounting, who has served as interim CFO since July 2025.
“We are enormously grateful to Mrs. Clark for her steadfast leadership at a very difficult time. Her work reflects the dedication of the Financial Services team, which has played a vital role in rebuilding our financial health over the past year,” Phipps said.
