In a great note to finish off a super year, the Atkins Chess Team competed at the Supernationals Chess event the weekend of May 9 - 11 in Orlando. Every four years, the high school, middle school, and elementary national championships are all held at the same location, and this year's event was in Florida.
After winning back-to-back state championships, players were primed to take their game to national competition. Atkins fielded two teams, with its top two players in the U1600 division: Kritarth Mishra and Joel Kindy brought home a 19th place trophy, even though they only had two players, with Mishra finishing ninth in the individual standings.
