Atkins hosted its Letterman Celebration the evening of Wednesday, May 15. This is the event where we recognize ALL competing teams at our school: Athletics, Academics, Fine Arts, and JROTC.
After great food provided by Nadra Hunte and her Foods students, the presentation began at 6 pm, and we were done by 7:45! That is truly amazing, considering we recognized sixty (60) teams, gave out 169 awards, and also inducted four alumni into our Letterman Hall of Fame: Marrianna Flores in Fine Arts, Claire Weibking in Academics, Cameron Attucks in Athletics, and Camryn Agee in JROTC.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest and most comprehensive high school awards ceremony in the state of North Carolina. And we must remember that what we do here at Atkins is unique, based on the vision of our former principal Joe Childers who created this concept. These are not sports awards with some academic awards thrown in. These are all awards for competition, and they are recognized equally here at Atkins.
If you missed it, here is the presentation (This is a compressed version because it is 152 pages).
A few notes:
-- If you ordered Letters and Patches, they are available in Students Services. Seniors that don't get them by Friday, May 16, they will be available at graduation practice.
-- If you know you were given an award but were not present, check with your coach first to see if they have it. Other athletics awards were given to AD Long. Dr. Maj. Rodney Wallace has all remaining JROTC awards.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to help make the event a huge success!
