Flat Rock Middle School is proud to announce its recent authorization as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This prestigious designation recognizes Flat Rock’s commitment to providing a rigorous, well-rounded education with a global perspective for all scholars. As an authorized IB World School, every scholar at Flat Rock Middle School is now considered an IB scholar, opening the door to opportunities that encourage community engagement, creative thinking, and real-world learning.
This achievement reflects the dedication and collaborative efforts of our MYP teachers and staff, who have worked closely with the International Baccalaureate organization throughout the authorization process. With this designation, Flat Rock Middle School joins a worldwide network of more than 1,800 MYP schools spanning 127 countries. During the verification team visit in March, Flat Rock received numerous commendations, including recognition for strong community support and the exceptional commitment of its educators.
Dr. Kayla DeWald, IB MYP Coordinator, shared her enthusiasm about the milestone:
“Our teachers and staff have worked extremely hard over the past couple of years to achieve this milestone. We are thrilled to officially call ourselves an ‘IB World School.’ We have an outstanding team of educators who are eager to collaborate and design interdisciplinary units that blur traditional subject boundaries. These learning experiences provide meaningful, real-world connections and encourage our scholars to become lifelong learners. They have planned some truly unique units, and you will see amazing work coming from Flat Rock scholars.”
The teachers at Flat Rock Middle have been committed to the implementation throughout the process. Brittany Hamm, 8th grade Language & Literature teacher, is excited to see the opportunities this designation brings for the scholars. She says,
