Good Evening Konnoak Middle School families, faculty and staff. This is principal Gantt with your weekly message, so, here we go! We want to thank all of our community partners such as Main Street Family Care, Communities for Public Schools and so many others that have given so much to our school already this year. It truly takes a village and our village is constantly growing. What else do we need? We need you as a partner too! We need you as parents and guardians to be very involved in how your scholar is doing in school. We need you contacting the school and letting us know of absences and why. We need you to monitor your child’s grades and behavior. We need you to come and volunteer in the building and the classroom. We need YOU! You are the biggest influence on the long term success of your child. We need you to become involved in every way! If you want your child to be successful, you must be involved and we SO welcome all the involvement you are willing to give. Help us help your child! We are a partnership together. Attendance is so very important and our school has the most chronic absenteeism in the district. That is not something to be proud of. That means scholars at our school miss the most days of school out of any school in the district. We need your help! Please send your scholar to school each day ready to learn. It’s the law. That simple act controls how much he/she learns and grows in the school year. To encourage scholars to come, we have an ice cream party incentive as a nest competition. Let’s come everyday ready to learn. We will soon have giveaways for parents with scholars with the most improved attendance as well. Stay tuned! We have our first semester fundraiser and we are selling World’s Finest chocolate. There are so many prizes from money, parties and gift cards that scholars can get for selling chocolate. The sale starts on next Wednesday 9/18 and runs for a month. We have a goal of selling 400 boxes. What is important is that you sign on as an involved parent for your family to sell chocolate. Then you have to return the money the very next day after selling the box. Then, get another box. If we sell those boxes we will raise over $10,000 for our scholars! We need your help! Don’t forget that the School Health Alliance mobile is here every first and third Tuesday from 8-3 pm. That means they are here next week in the back of the school. They serve adults and children of Winston-Salem. If you have a non-urgent health need, come by and sign up for services. The information is on our website. Here are the games of the week! Monday we have soccer with a home game at Glenn vs Northwest. Our guys are doing a great job and have won their first 2 games. Tuesday we have flag football at the Fulton YMCA field 2. Wednesday soccer home at Glenn vs Clemmons and Cross Country is away at Hanes. Thursday is flag football @ Fulton YMCA field 3. Well, that is all for this week and I think that was enough. This is principal Gantt signing off from the home of the Owls where we are going all the way up by creating access to success. Take care.

Cuidanse.

Cuts for Konnoak will take place on Wednesday of this week from 9-1. This is an opportunity for a free haircut for your scholar that attends Konnoak Middle School. Cuidanse .

If they enter the building, they are to be powered off and put away. Scholars have been doing a great job with the new cell phone policy! We are so proud of them. Scholars have also been doing great with keeping hoods down while in the building as well. We are proud of our scholars. One last thing is that picture day is on Sept 28th. That is next Wednesday. Picture forms have been sent home to families. If you need another form, come by the front office. Well, that is it for this week! I hope to see you on Thursday for our Parent Opening Meeting. Cuidanse

Good Evening Konnoak Middle School families, faculty and staff. This is Principal Gantt with your weekly message. Tomorrow is the first day of school and we are thrilled to see your scholar join the hallways of success. We look forward to seeing everyone by 7:25 as the school day starts at 7:25 and is over at 2:00. Please bear with transportation this first couple of weeks as bus drivers get to know routes and scholars on those routes. If you have any major transportation concerns, please call the school or visit and we can do our best to help you or point you in the right direction. Just as a reminder to everyone, cell phones are not allowed during the school day. If your scholar brings a phone, it must be powered off and put away during ALL school hours. Once again, phones are not allowed during the school day at all for scholars. Also we are a hood free environment which follows the WSFCS dress code for all scholars. Hoods will not be permitted to be worn on the head during the day along with any other hats or beanies. Nothing on the head is permitted other than eyeglasses. We want the first day to be great for all our scholars and our faculty and staff. I urge everyone to get a good night’s sleep and come to school tomorrow ready to rock and roll learning new people, routines and expectations as we learn to SOAR. This is principal Gantt signing off and remember, we are SOARing by creating access to success! Take care.
