Good Evening Konnoak Middle School families, faculty and staff. This is principal Gantt with your weekly message. Let’s get to it!
Parents, We at Konnoak Middle School are dedicated to partnering with our families to make our school better each and every day. We need you to partner back. We love for our families to communicate with us about celebrations and concerns. Please make sure your phone numbers are updated when you change them so we can continue to reach out to you. Please also talk with your scholar about their personal problems and happenings outside of school. Many of these items make it back to school as problems and we need your help in solving what is happening outside of school. Please partner with us to help grow your scholar. We are all invested. Most of all, make sure they come to school and if they are not coming, let’s work on getting them here. We need YOU to make school better each day!
We have started our first semester fundraiser and we are selling World’s Finest chocolate. There are so many prizes from money, parties and gift cards that scholars can get for selling chocolate. Scholars already are doing a great job of selling chocolate and we look forward to you selling even more. We have a goal of selling 400 boxes. You still have time to sign the permission slip and sell chocolate. We will be selling until October 18th. Once you sell a box, you have to return the money the very next day after selling the box. Then, get another box. If we sell those boxes we will raise over $10,000 for our scholars! Let’s keep those sales coming!
Don’t forget that the School Health Alliance mobile is here every first and third Tuesday from 8-3 pm. That means they are here in one week in the back of the school. They serve adults and children of Winston-Salem. If you have a non-urgent health need, come by and sign up for services. The information is on our website.
This is the last week for Boys soccer regular season. Come cheer on our guys so we can make it to the playoffs!! Cheer tryouts are 2 weeks away and volleyball tryouts are 3 weeks away. Here are the games of the week!

Cuidanse.

We need you as parents and guardians to be very involved in how your scholar is going in school. We need you contacting the school and letting us know of absences and why. We need you to monitor your child’s grades and behavior. We need you to come and volunteer in the building and the classroom. We need YOU! You are the biggest influence on the long term success of your child. We need you to become involved in every way! If you want your child to be successful, you must be involved and we SO welcome all the involvement you are willing to give. Help us help your child! We are a partnership together.
Attendance is so very important and our school has the most chronic absenteeism in the district. That is not something to be proud of. That means scholars at our school miss the most days of school out of any school in the district. We need your help! Please send your scholar to school each day ready to learn. It’s the law. That simple act controls how much he/she learns and grows in the school year. To encourage scholars to come, we have an ice cream party incentive as a nest competition. Let’s come everyday ready to learn. We will soon have giveaways for parents with scholars with the most improved attendance as well. Stay tuned!

Cuidanse .

Good Evening Konnoak Middle School families, faculty and staff. This is Principal Gantt with your weekly message. So let’s get right to it! We had a wonderful first week of school and we are 5 days down with 175 more wonderful days to go. The first 5 days we spent getting to know our scholars. This coming week starts our first week of instruction. This week, scholars will be learning about the content and standards teachers have planned for excellence in the classroom.
We will have our Title I Parent Opening Meeting on this Thursday, Aug 22, 2024 at 6:00 pm until 6:30. Come out and learn about what funding we have and how we use it. You will also learn about our commitment to you, the community we serve. Once again that is Thursday at 6:00 pm. Please enter from the rear of the school.
This year we will have the School Health Alliance Sponsored by Atrium Health at our school two days a week. The services they offer are Well-Child Physicals, NC Health Assessments, Sports Physicals, Minor Illness and Injury Care, Nutrition, Vision and Hearing Screenings and Mental Health Counseling. They will be here the first and third Tuesday of each month from 8-3 pm in the rear of the school. You can call 336.407.9561 or visit
www.shaforsyth.com or scan the QR code on our website to schedule and appointment or ask a question. Please use this valuable service.
On another note, I want to remind you that we are doing safe entry this year for each day of the school year. We also remind you that cell phones are not to be used during the school day. If they enter the building, they are to be powered off and put away. Scholars have been doing a great job with the new cell phone policy! We are so proud of them. Scholars have also been doing great with keeping hoods down while in the building as well. We are proud of our scholars.
One last thing is that picture day is on Sept 28th. That is next Wednesday. Picture forms have been sent home to families. If you need another form, come by the front office.

Cuidanse

Good Evening Konnoak Middle School families, faculty and staff. This is Principal Gantt with your weekly message. Tomorrow is the first day of school and we are thrilled to see your scholar join the hallways of success. We look forward to seeing everyone by 7:25 as the school day starts at 7:25 and is over at 2:00.
Please bear with transportation this first couple of weeks as bus drivers get to know routes and scholars on those routes. If you have any major transportation concerns, please call the school or visit and we can do our best to help you or point you in the right direction.
Just as a reminder to everyone, cell phones are not allowed during the school day. If your scholar brings a phone, it must be powered off and put away during ALL school hours. Once again, phones are not allowed during the school day at all for scholars. Also we are a hood free environment which follows the WSFCS dress code for all scholars. Hoods will not be permitted to be worn on the head during the day along with any other hats or beanies. Nothing on the head is permitted other than eyeglasses.
We want the first day to be great for all our scholars and our faculty and staff. I urge everyone to get a good night’s sleep and come to school tomorrow ready to rock and roll learning new people, routines and expectations as we learn to SOAR.
This is principal Gantt signing off and remember, we are SOARing by creating access to success!
Take care.

Good Evening Wonderful Konnoak Middle School families, faculty and staff. Yes, we are no longer Philo-Hill Magnet Academy, we are Konnoak Middle School. This is Principal Gantt with an important message:
We have been laying the foundation all summer for a great school year for our owls. We cannot wait to see you at 6th grade orientation which will take place on THIS coming Wednesday, August 7 from 8:30 until noon. Bus requests were to take place over the summer so if you did not request one, you will need to provide transportation. We want to see all of our 6th graders on that day. Please call and let us know you will be in attendance so we can prepare for you! Parents are welcome with scholars!!
Our Konnoak Middle School Open House will take place on Wednesday as well from 4-6 pm. Come out and meet your teachers and our wonderful faculty and staff, receive your schedule and hear about new things going on this year for Konnoak Middle School. We will have music and Kona Ice for all to enjoy while we set this year off with a bang. That is once again, August 7th from 4-6pm. We look forward to seeing you there! This is principal Gantt signing off but hoping to see you soon as we Hoot and Holler all year long, laying the foundation to go all the way up as we create access to success.
Take care

Philo-Hill Chorus Teacher Anna Wade Honored By NC Symphony With Musicians Award
Philo-Hill Magnet Academy recently held its spring chorus concert “Shine Like Stars”. The students were amazing and a lot of the credit for that goes, deservedly so, to second-year Chorus Teacher Anna Wade. WS/FCS Cable 2 Photojournalist Kevin Wrenn shares how the North Carolina Symphony surprised and honored Ms. Wade with a special award at the end of the performance.
