Students and faculty at Middle College of Forsyth (MCF) learned on January 9th through a schoolwide email that the 2025-2026 Teacher and Staff of the Year had been selected, recognizing three individuals whose work had shaped the school community in lasting ways.
The annual awards honored one educator and two staff members who demonstrated dedication, leadership, and a strong commitment to students. Selected through votes from faculty and staff, this year’s recipients stood out for their consistent impact both inside and outside the classroom.
Seminar and Social Studies teacher Hannah Mickey was named Teacher of the Year; recognized for her engaging teaching style, strong relationships with students, and commitment to fostering thoughtful discussion and critical thinking in her classroom.
Students were asked how Ms. Mickey made a difference in their school year. “Ms. Mickey created a safe space where I felt comfortable being myself. She never judged me, which made me feel valued and supported,” said MCF Senior Helen, who had Ms. Mickey for Junior Seminar and American History.
Classified of the Year went to the Data Manager Leigh Ann Hartis, provides a familiar and welcoming presence for students, parents, and staff. Known for her reliability, organization, and willingness to help others, Mrs. Hartis Hartis played a key role in keeping the school running smoothly.
“The biggest piece of advice I would pass on to students is to not stress about the little stuff, and enjoy the present. It’s not going anywhere!” said Mrs. Hartis.
Instructional Support Personnel of the Year was awarded to Instructional Facilitator and newly-appointed Testing Coordinator, Piper Hendrix. Hendrix was recognized for her dedication to ensuring students and staff were well-prepared and supported during testing and throughout the school year.
We asked students how Hendrix has helped them this year. “The most helpful thing Ms. Hendrix does is look out for us and make sure we are supported, no matter what troubles us,” said MCF senior Milile.
This recognition continues a long-standing school tradition of celebrating those who make a difference, highlighting the important role both teachers and staff play in shaping student success.
