Our two-hour delay this morning allowed our buses and other drivers the ability to travel safely to our schools. Due to sustained weather conditions and no melting today, we are going to delay once again for two hours to provide bus drivers, families and staff daylight to travel safely.
WS/FCS will have a two-hour delay on January 16. Students and staff should arrive two hours later than the typical start of the school day. Old Town will open at 9:25am and classes will begin at 9:55am. Staff and families are urged to use caution and give themselves extra time to get to school and work in the morning.
If you have any individual safety concerns, please call your child’s school.

As you know, our concern this week has been roads that remained ice or snow covered. Crews have done an incredible job clearing these areas and conditions have greatly improved.
There are still some areas with snow on the side of the road and patches of ice, so to assure that our bus drivers, parents, and students have good visibility in the morning, we are going to operate on a 2-hour delay. Old Town will open our doors at 9:25am for students and classes will begin at 9:55am.
It will be quite cold tomorrow, but we think this extra time will add a layer of safety to our morning commute.
We thank you for your patience and we look forward to everyone back in school!

Due to many roads in subdivisions and rural areas that are still not clear of snow and ice, WS/FCS will be CLOSED tomorrow, January 14, 2025.
We had really hoped to get everyone back on a normal schedule tomorrow, but given the conditions and overnight temperatures falling below freezing, we made the decision to keep everyone as safe as possible.
We appreciate the hard work of those clearing roads and our campuses, but we need at least another day of sunshine to clear things up.

In order to keep everyone as safe as possible with the approaching winter storm, Winston/Salem Forsyth County Schools will be CLOSED on Friday, January 10. All afterschool and Saturday activities are cancelled.
Stay warm and we will be in touch if further changes in our schedule are needed.

Due to expected freezing temperatures overnight, and a slippery commute for buses, student drivers, families, and employees, WS/FCS will be closed for students Tuesday, January 7.
The closure is based on the road conditions, particularly in the northwest area of the county. A delayed start would not give enough time for conditions to improve.
The school days missed this week will need to be made up for students to meet state requirements. These days will be made up on March 7 and April 21. Community members should note March 7 was previously planned to be part of spring break for students and April 21 is Easter Monday.
The weather days have also changed the report card distribution timeline. Report cards will be sent home on January 13.

Hello WS/FCS Families and Staff,
Due to today’s winter weather and overnight temperatures anticipated to hover around freezing, WS/FCS will be closed to staff and students Monday, January 6. Based on current conditions, we expect our staff, who commute from across the region, could have difficulty coming to work on Monday morning.
We will continue to monitor the weather and will report decisions for Tuesday as soon as possible. Please stay safe!

WS/FCS will be on a 2 hour delay Wednesday, December 4. Old Town will open at 9:25am and the tardy bell will ring at 9:55am.
WS/FCS tendrá un retraso de 2 horas el miércoles 4 de diciembre. Old Town abrirá a las 9:25 a.m. y la campana de tardanza sonará a las 9:55 a.m.
