Manuel's Personal Project was "Learning to Communicate and Collaborate with our Community". He wanted to develop his voice and use it for change. His journey led him to sponsorship by our PTSA with support from the National PTA grant, "Youth Engagement Capacity Building" (YECB), awarded to our PTSA this year to help support student advocacy.
Under Manuel's leadership with support from senior student leadership council leaders Zaree Fulwood and Carl Lacy White, Manuel created the Parkland Student Advocacy Alliance (PSAA), a student-led advocacy club here at Parkland. With the support of Ms. Michelle Cherry our PTSA Treasurer, the PSAA applied for the Youth Grantmakers in Action grant and was awarded a $250 grant to obtain podcast equipment to help support Manuel's idea to create a student run podcast with the PSAA.
On Wednesday, April 15th at the Winston Salem Foundation Youth Grantmakers in Action Award Ceremony Manuel formally accepted the award on behalf of the PSAA
