weekly announcements

👋 Hello to all SEMS families, students, and staff. Here are this week's announcements:

Fall sports tryouts will begin this week.

Softball and baseball tryouts will be Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons until 4pm.Cross country and boys soccer tryouts will take place on Thursday and Friday afternoons until 4pm.

All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible to try out. You must have your required paperwork, including a complete physical form, on file in the Dragonfly system online. Please see Mrs. Griffin or Coach Pizzino if you have any questions.

Thank you again for your patience with our morning and afternoon traffic. Our flow has improved every day and we expect that to continue happening through this week. As bus passes get approved, we will make sure our students get that confirmation so they can begin riding. You can also help create a safer and more efficient process by:

  1. Stay in the line to drop off or pick up your student - students may not cross over the parking lot for any reason,

  2. At dismissal, have your student's name written down and put in the dashboard - we will then know who we are looking for and can get them to you quicker, and

  3. ONLY turn right as you exit the parking lot.

The State of North Carolina requires all students to watch a short safety video called Protecting Our Students. This video discusses what students should do if an adult ever acts in an unsafe or inappropriate way. After the video, students will talk about what they learned with our Student Services Team.  All students are scheduled to watch this video during the week of August 25. If you have any questions or if you do not want your child to view the video, please contact our Student Services Department at 336-703-4220. A copy of the opt-out form is also attached to this email message.

Soon we will be starting up our school fundraiser. Our district and schools are experiencing deep cuts in our budget. This includes instructional supplies and materials for our teachers to provide for our students. So we need your help! Students will have the opportunity to sell chocolate bars by the box. We will conduct the sale for two weeks. Once the student sells the entire box (30 bars at $2 each), they can turn in the money and continue getting boxes to sell with your permission. Our school goal is to raise $20,000 to ensure that our needs are met! Even though the official kickoff is not until Aug 27, students can get a box and begin selling this week! On Tuesday, our teachers will review this information with all students and hand out an Early Chocolate Check Out form for parents to complete. Sign the form and return it with your student and we will make sure they get their first box. All instructions will be inside the box. We do hope that all of our students participate in this event. Students and staff can earn awesome prizes for the number of boxes they sell. Prizes include cash, music events, field trips, and more!
