Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy Partners with WSSU NABA for "Adult for a Day" Financial Literacy Workshop

On February 18, 2025, Winston-Salem State University’s National Association of Black Accountants (WSSU NABA) hosted an Adult for a Day budgeting workshop at Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy. This incredible learning experience was made possible through WSPA’s partnership with Dr. Carol L. Cain, Ph.D., CPA, Chair of the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at WSSU, along with WSSU NABA students.

Adult for a Day is an interactive financial education simulation designed to teach students the fundamentals of budgeting and money management. Through this hands-on experience, WSPA students gained valuable insight into the financial responsibilities of adulthood.

During the workshop, students:
✅ Took on the role of a young adult managing a job, debt, and family responsibilities.
✅ Visited stations representing real-world expenses such as housing, transportation, and food.
✅ Created a budget and made critical financial decisions.
✅ Learned about the consequences of their financial choices.

Key Benefits for WSPA Students:

🔹 Gained a deeper understanding of the value of education beyond high school.
🔹 Learned about the impact of credit on lifestyle choices.
🔹 Discovered the importance of living within their means.

This impactful collaboration with WSSU NABA provided WSPA students with real-world financial skills, helping them prepare for their futures. We are excited to continue fostering partnerships that equip our students with the tools they need for success!
