
The WS/FCS Board of Education has approved Rachel Sanchez as the new principal Kernersville Middle School.
Sanchez has served as assistant principal at Kernersville Middle since 2015. Prior to joining WS/FCS, she was as a classroom teacher in Guilford County Schools, where she served for 10 years. In WS/FCS, she initially took on the role of instructional facilitator at Mineral Springs Middle before joining Kernersville Middle.
Ms. Sanchez holds an administrative license and is a National Board-Certified teacher in Early Adolescent English Language Arts. She earned her Master of Education Degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, where she also completed her Post-Master’s Certificate in School Administration.

She begins her new role on August 1.


The WS/FCS Board of Education has approved Christie Brown as the new principal of Rural Hall Elementary School.
Brown began her career with WS/FCS as a teacher at Forest Park Elementary School. She later transitioned into school administration. She held positions as assistant principal at Mineral Springs Middle School and Paisley IB Magnet School, and she is currently assistant principal at Flat Rock Middle School.
She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem State University and a master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University.

Griffith Elementary School celebrated the end of SEE Summer School with a schoolwide dance party on Thursday afternoon. Students had a phenomenal time all summer, learning robotics, art, African drumming, STEM, science, social studies, traditional math, literacy enrichment, and more. It all culminated in one last festivity run by Darryl Gordon of D Unity X. Glad to see everyone enjoying their summer!

WS/FCS Teacher Residency Going Strong In Year Two
WS/FCS Teacher Residency is an accelerated program for people who want to become a teacher but have a bachelor's degree in another area. The participants work together to earn their teaching license in less than a year. WS/FCS Cable 2 Photojournalist Kevin Wrenn shares why this may be the program for you, if you are interested in becoming a licensed teacher.


The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the Education Building at 4801 Bethania Station Road in Winston-Salem.
The public is encouraged to come to the open portion of the meeting. Due to pre-planned vacations, Cable 2 employees will be out of town and the meeting will not be shown on television or streamed. The closed portion of the meeting is to discuss a personnel matter.
The minutes of the meeting will be posted upon Board approval.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will host two hiring events in July. The Summer 2024 Operations Career Fair will take place at Griffith Elementary School in the gym adjacent to the school building. It will be held Tuesday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The school is located at 1385 West Clemmonsville Road in Winston-Salem.

Anyone interested in learning how to earn a North Carolina Teaching License to become a teacher can join the WS/FCS Alternative Pathways to Teaching Webinar. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education has approved La Quisha Henry-Linder as the new principal of Northwest Middle School. Henry-Linder began with WS/FCS in 2005 as a teacher at Atkins High School, where she worked for 12 years. She served as a principal intern at Flat Rock Middle School before becoming an assistant principal at North Forsyth High School from 2018 to 2023. She is currently serving as assistant principal at Mineral Springs Middle School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University and a Master of Education degree from High Point University. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education has approved new district leadership. Dr. Kisha Clemons will be the new North Area Superintendent. Kevin Spainhour will be the new East Area Superintendent. La Quisha Henry-Linder was appointed as the new principal of Northwest Middle School. Yamil Ardila Bullock will become the new Multilingual Learner Services Director.
Dr. Clemons has 22 years of experience in North Carolina public schools. She was a principal in Rowan County and Newton-Conover City Schools. Most recently, Clemons served as Chief Academic Officer in Warren County Schools.
Dr. Clemons earned her Bachelor of Science degree in music education and her master’s degree in school administration from Appalachian State University. She also holds an educational specialist degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Most recently, Spainhour has served as the principal of West Forsyth High School since 2021. He was the principal of West Stokes High School in Stokes County. Prior to that, he served as the assistant principal at West Stokes for one year. Earlier in his career, Spainhour spent more than 10 years as a teacher at Mount Airy High School, East Surry High School, and Chestnut Grove Middle School.
Spainhour has a bachelor’s degree from Guilford College, a master’s degree from East Carolina University and his administration licensure from Appalachian State University.
Start dates for Clemons and Spainhour are to be determined.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Tolima University, a master’s degree in special education from Elon University, a post-master’s in school administration and curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and licensure in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and dual language from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She begins her new role on July 1.
