6th graders learned a lot and had a "blast" on our STEM field trip to WSSU today to see HIP HOP MD, Maynard Okereke. Check out his new book, Zombie Spiders and Asteroid Blasters from our media center. He is also on Netflix & YouTube.

Hanes Crosby Scholars are preparing for a bright future! The Crosby Scholars Program is a free college- and career-readiness organization that helps public middle school students prepare academically, personally, and financially for college and post-secondary goals. Our first STEM Night for rising 6th grade families was a STEMTASTIC event last Thursday. Thank you to all the families who came to learn more about Hanes and the unique academic programs that we have to offer! We Are Hanes.
Hanes Annual Food Drive is coming up! Students can start bringing in cans on Monday, October 27. If students bring in four cans of food, they can participate in the following School Spirit Incentive Days!

Dragon Families: Mark your calendar for our annual STEM FAIR NIGHT on DEC. 3 @ 5-7 PM. We will showcase your students' science fair projects, have STEM activities designed by our community & business partners, have the Book Fair in our Media Center, and have our award ceremony to conclude this STEMTASTIC evening of fun! Families & students who want to learn more about the Hanes middle school experience are also invited to come as well. We will have a short Q&A session for new families coming to Hanes next year. Hanes Quiz Bowl Team will now meet Mondays after school until 3:15 PM in the cafeteria. We will start Monday, Sept. 21. Students will go to the auditorium at dismissal and be picked up by their club sponsor, Mrs. Stephanie Ward. We are still looking for a second sponsor.
