Ms. LeMay's science classes kicked off physics this week with a hands-on tower building competition! Students put their engineering skills to the test, and the tallest free-standing tower reached an impressive 148 cm! This is just the beginning. After diving deeper into the principles (and ā€œprotectorsā€ šŸ˜‰) of physics, students will revisit the challenge and see how their new knowledge helps them build even stronger, taller structures. We love seeing learning in action! #learnersmindset #collaboration

Black History Month is a time to honor the courage, wisdom, and enduring legacy of African American leaders who reshaped history and expanded the meaning of freedom. It is a moment to remember those who stood firm when the world told them to bow, who spoke truth when silence was safer, and who built pathways forward when none existed.

This month celebrates more than famous names. It honors teachers, organizers, artists, soldiers, scientists, and dreamers who transformed struggle into progress and pain into purpose. Their lives remind us that Black history is not a side chapter—it is central to the story of justice, democracy, and human dignity.

Black History Month is also a call to action. To learn deeper. To tell the full truth. To protect the legacy that was hard-won and often denied. And to carry that legacy forward with pride, responsibility, and hope.

We honor the past. We recognize the present. And we invest in a future shaped by truth, equity, and possibility.

The 5 Royales -- Jimmy Moore, Obadiah Carter, Eugene Tanner, Johnny Tanner, and Lowman Pauling --
The quintet began as gospel group the Royal Suns in Winston-Salem in 1942.

A decade later (and after a few member changes) they sent a demo to Apollo Records.

The label wanted a group for rhythm and blues so The ā€œ5" Royales was born.

Their songs ā€œBaby Don’t Do Itā€ and ā€œHelp Me Somebodyā€ topped the charts.

The group disbanded in 1964 but their talent lived on — they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

The image is a mural in Winston Salem featuring the group on the corner of Trade and 8th streets
