Hanes Magnet School

The Board of Education recognized schools that won Clean and Green awards during their meeting last week. Clean and Green is an initiative with Keep Winton Salem Beautiful and the Garden Club Council that rewards schools that reduce litter, provide environmental education, and beautify their campuses. Congratulations to #HanesMagnetMiddle School, #LewisvilleMiddle School, and #RJRHigh School for winning awards, as well as #WSPAPhoenix, #Atkins_HS, #HallWoodward Elementary School, and #KernersvilleES for winning honorable mentions!

7th grade STEM field trip to NASCAR Hall of Fame! Students built racecars and racetracks, studied speed and banking, raced the clock in a pit-car challenge, and raced each other in a real race car simulator!

WS/FCS middle and elementary schools have now also completed their 2026 Battle of the Books competitions. Battle of the Books tasks students with reading a selection of books and competing quiz bowl style to test their reading comprehension and teamwork. This year's placing teams were:
